Soon 2020 will be followed by 2021, and we will be celebrating – most likely quite modestly – this event. This means that the time has come not only to sum up the results of 2020, which was very difficult for many, but also to look into the future to find out about the grandiose film premieres that await us.

Probably, 2021 will be marked by many important events in the world of cinema, since not only planned premieres but also postponed (due to the coronavirus pandemic) ones should take place.

So, let’s get started!

New Marvel Comic Movies Coming out

There was a glitch in Marvel’s elaborate pipeline – 2020 was the first year in the last 12 years that the studio has not released a single movie, since all premieres have been postponed. The year 2021 will present us with four blockbusters about Marvel superheroes at once.

Black Widow – Premiere on May 7, 2021

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), the matriarch of the Avengers team, will return to the big screens again. We will go to the recent past (five years ago) when, while still alive but outside the law, Romanoff was solving problems associated with her past. The Black Widow will meet again with her former colleagues (before the Avengers), mentors and villain Taskmaster. A very twisted plot, characteristic characters and well-staged fights await the audience. Unfortunately, Black Widow is likely to become a ‘cantus cycneus’ for Scarlett Johansson in the MCU.

There are even rumors that Scarlett is ready to hand over the baton to Florence Pugh, the young actress who may become the new incarnation of Black Widow.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – Premiere on July 9, 2021

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the MCU’s 25th anniversary movie, is the studio’s dark horse. Shang-Chi is a martial artist fighting the real villain Mandarin (as known, the fake Mandarin was included in the Iron Man 3 villains list). While we have little information about this by far one of the most anticipated films for 2021, the cast of almost entirely Asian actors is its main feature. Simu Liu, a little-known actor, is the performer of the main role. However, several stars including Aquafina and Michelle Yeoh also made the cast. Undoubtedly, Marvel is looking to expand its audience – however, will the studio be successful this time around? While this is not the first time that Marvel has been spending a lot of money on highly risky projects – and emerging as a winner – we will get an answer to this question only in 2021. At the moment, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings looks like a very interesting film project, and it will be interesting to see how it will be integrated into the MCU.

Eternals – Premiere on November 5, 2021

By far one of the most anticipated films coming out in 2021, Eternals is the most ambitious movie in the MCU’s 13-year history. Although four films about the Avengers team have already seen the world, their main heroes were characters well known to the audience. Now, we will see a certain race of Eternals living undercover on our planet for thousands of years. Instead of new actors raised by Marvel, this time the cast includes real Hollywood stars, which is the main feature of the film. The all-star cast includes Angelina Jolie (Warrior Thena), Salma Hayek (Ajak, leader of the Eternals). The movie also featuring Richard Madden (almighty Ikaris) and Kit Harington (swordsman Black Knight) known as the Snow brothers from Game of Thrones.

With a budget of about $ 200 million, this film promises to be quite spectacular. Although the plot of the film is kept in strict confidence, it has already become known that the Eternals will confront the Deviants, their evil brothers.

After Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Eternals look like another risky Marvel movie project. On the other hand, it is interesting to watch these two films and follow the further development of the MCU.

Untitled Spider-Man Sequel – Premiere on December 16, 2021

With the two previous films in the series grossing $ 880 million and $ 1.131 million at the box office, this film project doesn’t look that risky. Marvel Studios is going to surprise the audience once again by presenting – in addition to the main characters of the film – Doctor Strange, and showing the confrontation between several Realms.

As a reminder, before Peter Parker was included in the MCU, several other Spider-Man films – the trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and the dilogy starring Andrew Garfield – were released in the 21st century. According to the latest rumors, all three Peter Parkers (Holland, Maguire and Garfield) as well as three girlfriends (Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone and Zendaya) and their enemies (Alfredo Molina and Jamie Foxx) will appear in the new film.

So, what is there to add? This is quite an intriguing movie among the film releases 2021.

Comics Movies by Other Studios

Marvel is not alone in being a top-notch comic book creator. In our times, when comics are gaining the lion’s share of the box office, the battle of films with characters from graphic novels becomes hotter than the battles shown on the screens. Undoubtedly, Marvel holds the crown – however, there are many other studios releasing amazing comics.

Wonder Woman 1984

Princess Diana with the magic lasso with premiere that was also postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, has finally received a release date – the new adventures of the superhero will be broadcast from the end of December on the HBO Max streaming platform. The film will be shown in theaters in countries where film distribution is still possible, a few weeks after the digital release. So, Wonder Woman 1984 is both the last blockbuster of 2020 and the first one of 2021.

In the sequel, the Amazon confronts Cheetah, her main enemy from the comics. Since the movie is set in the 1980s, bright sets, offensive costumes and loud pop music await us.

Having passed the stage of the first screenings, this picture received good criticism – so, we are looking forward to the release of this blockbuster.

Morbius – Premiere on March 19, 2021

It’s time for Jared Leto, the talented actor and musician, to get his own superhero movie. He plays the role of Michael Morbius, the antagonist who – in an attempt to cure himself of a certain disease – becomes a real vampire.

Until now, owning the rights to film the character of Spider-Man (and just sharing them to Marvel), Sony is gradually creating its own cinematic universe. With the release of The Venom, the super-successful movie, the studio is planning to release many other film projects, the next among which will be the release of Morbius. It is noteworthy that the trailer for the movie shows not only the logo of Spider-Man, but also Michael Keaton, who previously appeared in the MCU as the Vulture.

Now, many things are becoming even more intriguing – what if the two film studios were able to agree and Morbius, along with Venom, will be included into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We will find out the answers to this and other questions no earlier than March 2021.

The Suicide Squad – Premiere on August 5, 2021

The Suicide Squad, one of the most anticipated films in 2021, is a sequel-remake of the dismal DC comic movie. Having lured away James Gunn (creator of Guardians of the Galaxy), Warner Bros. Pictures has provided carte blanche for the reincarnation of the highly controversial 2016 blockbuster.

Not constrained by the demands of a film studio, Gann seized the opportunity and embarked on a creative endeavor. The team created by the director contains about two dozen motley characters whose life and reason he is not going to protect. So, a crazy and very daring version of the comic will premiere soon – let’s wait for new films 2021.

Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie will return to the screens again. We hope that this character will finally be directed as well as it deserves. It is noteworthy that James Gunn announced the spinoff TV series to the “Suicide Squad” with funny Peacemaker performed by former wrestler John Cena.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League – Premiere in Spring 2021

Dreams Come True.  After the premiere of “Justice League,” edited by Joss Whedon, which became a disaster at both the box office and the plot, comic book fans massively demanded to show what Zak Snyder, the original director of this film, shot. Long-resisted, Warner Bros.  Pictures studio gave the go-ahead to create the director’s version of the long-suffering blockbuster.

Joyfully back to work, Zach Snyder even got the go-ahead for the additional filming. As a result, the movie featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman and Flash saving the universe again, will be released approximately in March 2021. With all the cast returning to their roles, this film also starring Jared Leto in the cameo role of The Joker.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be featured in both a mini-series and a four-hour blockbuster and available for viewing on the “HBO MAX” streaming platform.

Next year, there will be numerous releases of a variety of cartoons for every taste – from kindergarteners to lovers of adult dark animation.

Soul – Premiere on December 25, 2020

Soul’s premiere has also been postponed due to the pandemic. Initially scheduled for summer 2020, the premiere of the new Pixar cartoon has been frozen in most countries. With a trailer hinting at a very interesting plot and showcasing animation of the highest level as well as great work of artists, it has every chance to win the hearts of not only young viewers, but also their parents. The cartoon will be released simultaneously in theaters and on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Minions: The Rise of Gru – Premiere on July 2, 20201

Minions: The Rise of Gru is the fifth feature-length cartoon in the Despicable Me franchise, an assembly line that, apparently, will not stop for a long time.

In the new cartoon, yellow squeaky creatures with an abnormal number of eyes manage to find the boss who is the boy Felonius Gru, the main character of the “Despicable Me” trilogy. The 12-year-old future world-class criminal dreams of joining the Vicious 6. However, having enlisted the help of the minions, he still could not realize his plan. Now, the boy is on the run with his yellow accomplices.

Featuring all the same minions and funny Gru, the new cartoon offers essentially nothing new. This cartoon is just another portion of the adventures of the characters that we have almost gotten used to for ten years.

Sing 2 – Premiere on December 25, 2021

Sing 2 is a sequel to a cartoon that tells the story of animals singing pop hits, which has also been postponed to premiere a year later on Christmas Eve 2021. Earning $ 630 million at the box office, the original 2016 cartoon was a hit – so, it should come as no surprise that the studio decided to film a sequel.

With renowned actors giving their voices to animated animals and singing recognizable songs and the creators of the original cartoon, Sing 2 will surely captivate audiences again.

Pinocchio – Premiere in 2021

Pinocchio is an adult cartoon that has every chance of becoming a sensation in the world of animated films – and there are several reasons why.
