Synopsis

Bombshell is a cinematic version of the 2016 scandal on US Fox News. Gretchen Carlson, a fired TV presenter, reported sexual harassment by Roger Ailes, the channel’s CEO. A few days later, other women including channel star Megyn Kelly joined the accusations.

One of the most notorious scandals in the American media environment, this story became the reason for Ailes’ sacking.

  • The film was presented to the American public on December 13, 2019. In several other countries, the “Bombshell” film was premiered on February 13, 2020, following the Academy Awards. The digital release on most streaming platforms took place on March 8, 2020.
  • Unlike the characters played by Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, the girl Kayla Pospisil played by Margot Robbie is a fictional character. Kayla is a prefab image as conceived by the writers. Being nominated for an Academy Award for the second time, Robbie conceded the main award to Renee Zellweger.
  • Although the film was nominated for three Academy Awards, only Kazu Hiro, the makeup artist, hit the Award. It is noteworthy that this is already the second Oscar in his career as a film make-up artist. He received his first Award two years ago for his work on “Darkest Hour”, in which he portrayed Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill.
  • “The Loudest Voice” miniseries premiered in Summer 2019 on Showtime TV also features Roger Isles, CEO of Fox News. Russell Crowe, who played Isles, won a Golden Globe. The role of Gretchen Carlson in the miniseries was played by Naomi Watts.
