Interesting Facts
- “Alienist” is what psychologists or psychiatrists were called in the past. This outdated concept reflects a century-old view of mental illness. People believed then that insanity occurred due to an “otherworldly possession” of a healthy person.
- Although the events in The Alienist take place in the United States, the entire TV-series was filmed in Hungary, and Budapest represents New York.
- Initially, The Alienist was supposed to be directed by Cary Fukunaga, but due to him being busy on other projects, he had to leave the director’s chair. However, Fukunaga remained the producer of The Alienist. Meanwhile, the premiere of the new Bond movie, directed by Fukunaga, will take place in November 2020. His next big project is a multi-episode screen adaptation of The Last of the Mohicans for the HBO Max service.
- The new season of The Alienist is based on the book called The Angel of Darkness, the second installment of the novel series The Alienist by Caleb Carr. The events of the next novel in the series unfurl in modern New York and tell us the story of Dr. Jones, a specialist in Kreizler’s work. Now Caleb Carr is working on two novels at once — a direct sequel to The Angel of Darkness and the backstory of Dr. Kreizler. So, if the channel decides to renew the series for the third season, showrunners will have three options on how to continue. By the way, Caleb Carr is the TV-series producer.
- The actor Daniel Brühl will appear later this year in the first episode of the revamped Marvel TV Universe’s TV-series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There he will return to his role as the villainous Baron Zemo.
- The TV-series producers have not yet announced a possible continuation of The Alienist.
